Equity funds Equity funds mostly contain shares. A share is an ownership stake in a company, therefore the fund's value change depends on how the companies in which the fund invests are doing. Funds that invest in fast-growing markets such as Eastern Europe or South America are more risky than those that invest in more established markets such as North America and Europe. A stock fund contains at least 16 different stocks, usually more. This means that when you buy shares in a fund, you spread the risk over at least 16 shares and are not dependent on the development of, for example, a single company. Equity funds with different orientations Within the broad categories there is a more detailed division. The equity funds are categorized according to whether they are index-managed, whether they invest in a certain industry, in a certain region or country, and whether they invest in growth companies and in small or large companies. Index management or active management In an actively managed fund, the manager strives for a better change in value than the average on the exchange or exchanges with which the fund compares. In an index-managed fund, the goal is to provide the same change in value as the average for the stock exchange, for example the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
